Non-pressure pipes before are using big thickness pipes in order to maintain the loads which influence the pipes. This will result to a very heavy and expensive pipes. To solve this problem, the profile pipes has been developed and calculated to special structure design to produce a significantly higher moment of inertia to carry the load. By comparison, a solid wall pipe of the same material with the respective moment of inertia would weigh three times more. The profiles are wound to spiral on special mandrels that defines the internal diameter of the pipe. Another advantage of spiral wound pipe is its capacity to produce at a very large diameter.
