The Brix meter is a device widely used in factories to measure the amount of sucrose in distilled water. This is a critical value in the beverages sector, since the quantity of sucrose directly impacts the sweetness of the product.
A Brix meter is an automatic instrument which calculates the Brix percentage in the sample by determining the critical angle of total reflection. This working is based on Snells law.
The instrument setup consists of a light source, usually an LED bulb, that is focused onto a prism surface by means of a lens system. The prism surface is where the liquid sample is dropped onto. When light passes through the liquid sample, a part of the light is reflected onto a linear arrangement of photodiodes, thereby creating a shadow line. The refractive index and the Brix percentage are directly related to the position of the shadow line on the photodiodes. The internal software correlates the position of the shadow line to Brix percentage and displays the value on a LCD display.

All it needs is two AAA batteries for you to take over 30, 000 readings. The auto-inactivity detection feature definitely helps by automatically switching off the instrument when it has not been put to use for a long time. Calibration is the process of comparing a known measurement, called the standard, with the measurement obtained using your instrument at hand. In the case of calibrating a portable Brix meter, the standard in most cases is distilled water. On dropping a few drops of distilled water onto the prism, the LCD display in the instrument must show a reading of 0 Brix.

RUDOLPH DENSITYMETER DDM RANGE: All the models of the DDM range are totally automatic, digital and have a built-in, touch-sensitive screen. They can control the temperature of the sample through electronic heating and cooling Peltier method. The VideoView which is patented in the name of Rudolph comes with the basic unit. The entire U-tube is also scanned with a 10X camera. This ensures even the smallest bubbles to be magnified 10 times and the images are shown live in the screen. The range is between 0 3 g/cm3. The min volume of sample required is 1ml. The systems are equipped with 5 USB Ports, 2 RS232 Ports, Ehternet Port for Network Connection, Keyboard, Barcode Scanner, Mouse, Network capabilities.
They have a built-in 8GB Non-removable Compact Flast Internal Memory and the entire system would be driven by Embedded Win 7 OS. With calibration in one temperature the system works throughout the temperature range.
Models 2910 & 2911 can also be equipped with a 21CFR Part 11 module and it is easily enabled through the digital touch screen and come with either NIST or UKAS traceable standards.
The differences between the various models lie in the resolution, repeatability and accuracy.
This system can be used to analyse Thermal Conductivity of Solids, Powders, Pastes or Thin Films
This system works out of Hot Wire Method (Transient Hot Wire Method). While the 710 model can also analyse Thin Film the model 700 cannot. Both models would have a 5.7 inch colour LCD display and would have a two-channel RS-232C interface and a USB 2 channel output also.
There are many probes to choose from like Box type proble PD-11N, Insulated Moisture-proof probe PD-13N, High Temperature probe PD-31N etc. The probe PD-31N can work from -100 to 1000 Deg C. The Thin film in 710 would be analysed in either a Box type probe or an Insulated Moisture-Proof probe.

Polarimeter is an instrument to find out Optical Rotation. From Optical Rotation one can derive the value of Specific Rotation of a liquid sample. The biggest application for this system is in the field of Pharma. Also other Industries like Sugar, Food, Flavours & Fragrances, Chemicals, Intermediates use Polarimeters in their Labs.
In a Polarimeter the concept is as follows:
There would be a light-source. The light which travels in all directions is polarised with a Polariser. When the polarised light travels through the sample, due to the nature of the sample, the light turns to the left or the right. Then with an analyser Polariser we find out (angel) whether the light has turned to the right or the left & (beer) how many degrees.
The result thus expressed in Degress is Optical Rotation. From this other results like Specific Optical Rotation, Deg Z, Deg ISS are calculated.

How does a digital density meter work?The main component of a digital density meter is a U-tube. The liquid sample is injected into the U-tube and is subjected to excitation. The frequency of oscillation is measured by a piezoelectric or electromagnetic sensor.The frequency and duration of vibration enable determination of sample density. Since the vibration frequency and density have a linear relationship, measuring the vibration frequency of the oscillating U-tube gives you an accurate value of density.

wile grain moisture meter: these moisture meters are used to determine the moisture and the temperature of grains, fodder or straw through conductivity principle.
