In operational use however it does have someshortcomings; being susceptible to creep under cold conditionsand lacking dimensional stability when subject to thermal andpressure cycling.With multi-directionally expanded ptfe, however, a complexthermo-mechanical stretching process changes theconventional monoaxial structure of expanded ptfe into ahighly fibrillated multi-directional fibre structure, which results inexcellent dimensional stability and a further reduction of coldflowand creep without the addition of filler materials.This provides better sealing at higher pressuretemperaturecombinations than possible with conventional ptfe gaskets.Both at room temperature and at elevated operatingtemperature, creep deformation strain is almost eliminated.All the positive qualities of expanded ptfe - like excellentmalleability which compensates for damage and irregularitieson the sealing area, as well as the unsurpassed chemical andthermal resistance of ptfe - remain unchanged
