Blind flanges are usually used to stop one end of the flanged pipe, a valve orifice or the opening of a pressure vessel. Slip on flanges are used in quick assembly to save the cost. These slip on flanges are also used in less strict requirements in terms of length of pipe section. Socket weld flanges are recommended for orifice flanges. These socket weld flanges work as substitute for slip-on-flanges in the cases where the diameter of the tube is very small and working pressure is very high. Threaded flanges are used in special requirements to work under high temperature and pressure, making sure no welding joint is made at the assembly. Weld neck flanges are mainly used on heat coupling of pipes when there is possibility of expansion of the section while bending stress on the coupling.
