Pichu Treatment

Pichu is an ayurvedic treatment popular among ayurveda acharyas. Pichu is used as an effective method to treat the ailments of head, spine and diseases of cranial nerves caused by vata disorder. In this treatment, medicated warm oil is applied on the head externally. It is done to a local area which is affected.Pichu can be directed on a person as a main treatment for head and spine or a simplified treatment can be carried out with similar oil treatments in ayurveda.The Procedure: Pichu is a treatment done externally to a patient. In this treatment, a folded dry cotton cloth or wool with size just enough to cover the concerned area is taken. Thickness of this folded cloth is normally that of a palm. Now, at the center a hole is made on the folded cloth and slightly warm oil is poured through it periodically. The cloth or wool soaked in warm medicated oil is applied on the area under treatment. Throughout the treatment procedure, the oil is heated periodically and kept lukewarm. The cotton wool or the cloth soaked in the oil is left to stay on the affected area for a particular period of time all the way through the treatment. Nasyam Treatment

Nasyam is one of part of panchakarma in ayurveda treatments. It is a medication done through nose. Nostrils are considers to be the door way to head. This is a treatment for clensing the areas above the shoulder basically nose, throat, sinuses and head. The face, shoulder and chest are massaged softly with medicated oil. Thalam Treatment

Shiro Vasti Treatment

Shiro vasti is a part of panchakarma treatment in ayurveda. Shirareferse to head, thus shiro vasti is the procedure where medicated oil is retained on the head for a particular period of time. Dhanyamla Dhara Treatment

Dhara means pouring liquid medium in a small continuous and constant stream over the body or affected area. Dhanyamla is a specially fermented medicinal preparation. Oryza sativa, citrus rotundus flattend oryza sativa, zingerver officianalis etc are some of the ingredients of Dhanyamla. Njavarakizhi Treatment

Navarakizhi is one of the typical Ayurvedic treatments. The treatment is termed so, as Njavara(Navara) rice is the main ingredient in the preparation. Elakizhi Treatment

This procedure is popularly known as Elakizhi or Pachakizhi. In this fresh leaves are collected and cutting to small pieces. Abhyangam is the basic massage in the Ayurveda treatment. The meaning of Abhyangam in Sanskrit is oil massage. It is an ideal massage for pregnant ladies. Abhyangam is the application of medicated oil on the body followed by massage by a trained therapist. The lukewarm ayurvedic oiling is done by changing into seven different positions. This therapy acts on the whole body on both physical and mental level balancing the doshas. It helps to relieve stiffness of joints and muscles and tones of muscles. Podi Kizhi Treatment

As the term implies Choorna that is herbal powder as used in this treatment procedure. Herbs are cleaned, dried and powdered prior to the treatment. These are then tied in to a bolus using suitable cloth. Medicated oil may or may not be applied over the body as per the individual conditions or as advised by the physician. The herbal powder bolus is heated and applied over the body or affected area in soft punches. The bolus is heated intermittently during the course of the treatment. It is beneficial in treating arthritis, bursitis, paralysis and muscular pain. It removes the toxins from the circulating system, clearing the channels, imparting blood circulation. It is beneficial in inflammations of spinal muscles and found to effective in certain low back aches, cervical spondylites and frozen shoulder. Kolakulathadi choornam, Kottomchukkadi choornam etc are some of the medicines use for choornakizhi. The duration of the treatment may vary from 30 to 45 minutes according to the condition of the individuals. This treatment is done in a course, that is for seven days, 14 days etc.

Elakizhi Treatment

This procedure is popularly known as Elakizhi or Pachakizhi. In this fresh leaves are collected and cutting to small pieces. These cut leafs are then fried in medicated oil along with coconut scrapes and lemon. It is then tied in a suitable cloth and made in to a bolus. Leaves of Calotropis gigantean, Ricinus communis, Vites nigundo, Muoringa oilfera, Tamarind etc. are the ones generally used for the bolus preparation. The inclusion of herbal leaves in the preparation of bouls depends on the condition of the individual. Medicated oil is applied on the whole body on the affected area. Prepared bouls is heated in small quantity of medicated oil and is applied over the body as soft punches. The technique nourishes the strained body parts and alleviates sore muscles and joints. This therapy is effective in various types of arthritis, spondylitis, lumbago, frozen shoulder, sciatica, post paralytic spasm, sports injuries and for all other spastic and inflammatory conditions etc. It enhances peripheral blood circulation, cleanses the channels of circulation and expels toxins through the sweat. It helps in toning and rejuvenating the body. It takes a day for its preparation as fresh leaves are to be collected and prepared for the bolus. The duration of application of bouls to the body may vary 30 to 40 minutes depending up on the individual conditions. For this treatment Dhanwantaram thailam, prabhanjana vimardanam thailam, sahacharady thailam, Murivenna, Karpooradi oil, Kottamchukkadi thailam etc. are mainly used. This may vary according to the conditions of the patient or instructions from the physician.
