Bentonite name from the place where its presence and usages were first discovered Fort Benton, America. Bentonite is also known as ‘Weathered Basalt'. Kachchh districts of Gujarat is the major producers of bentonite. Bentonite is essentially a highly plastic clay containing not less than 85% clay mineral, montmorillonite. Bentonite is a great commercial importance possessing inherent bleaching properties like fuller's earth, hence, it is known as bleaching clay. Bentonite is found in almost green or brown colors, but sometimes it is also found in red color. Bentonite is available in Bhachau, Rapar, Anjar, Bhuj, Mandvi, Abdasa, Mundra, Nakhatrana and Lakhpat Talukas. There are Two types of Bentonite are seen in Kutch swelling type or sodium bentonite and non-swelling type or calcium bentonite. Sodium bentonite is usually referred to as bentonite, whereas calcium bentonite is called Fuller's earth. The commercial importance of bentonite depends more on its physic-chemical properties rather than its chemical composition. Both activated and granular bentonite are produced in the Kutch. Bentonite is exported in unprocessed (crude) and processed (including activated) forms as well.

China Clay is also called Kaoline. One of the purest of the clays, composed for the most part of the mineral kaolinite usually formed when granite is changed by hydrothermal metamorphism. Usage of the terms china clay and kaolin is not well defined, sometimes they are used synonymously for a group of similar clays, and sometimes kaolin refers to those obtained in the United States and china clay to those that are imported. Some authorities term as china clays the most plastic of the kaolins. These clays are also used as a filler in making paper. It is found in Bhuj, Lakhpat, and RaparTalukas.
