P-20 Grade Introduction:P20 is an alloy tool steel which offers good machine ability even in the hardened and tempered (Brinell 300) condition. This steel gives an excellent polished finish and is one of the most widely accepted specifications for machine cut plastic molds and casting dies. P20 is often supplied in the hardened and tempered condition ready for machining. In this condition it gives excellent wear resistance but if maximum surface hardness is required for compression molding plastic dies or similar tools, the steel can be case hardened or nitride. For better machinability a higher Sulphur version P20S is available. For improved through hardenability in larger sections we also offer 1.2738 P20N P-20 Grade Application:P20 tool steel is ideally suited for the production of plastic molds. Typical applications include die holders, zinc die casting dies, backers, bolsters and injection molds. The versatility of P20 tool steel with its high tensile characteristics enables uses for a variety of other applications such as shafts, rails and wear strips. P-20 Equivalent grades:

M2 Grade Introduction:Molybdenum high-speed steels are designated as Group M steels according to the AISI classification system. Over 95% of high-speed steels manufactured in the US are group M steels. Tungsten is present in all types from M1 to M10, except M6, and cobalt is not present in any of these steels. Molybdenum high-speed steels have similar performance when compared to tungsten high-speed steels. However, the initial cost of molybdenum tool steels is lower. Titanium nitride, titanium carbide, and several other coatings can be used in the tools made of this kind of steel through a physical vapor deposition process to improve the performance and life span of the tool. M2 Grade Application:The main use of high-speed steel continues to be in the manufacture of various cutting tools. Typical applications for M2 high-speed steel are twist drills, reamers, broaching tools, taps, milling tools, metal saws. M2 is suitable for cold forming tools such as extrusion rams and dies, also widely used in all kinds of cutting tools, knife, and punches and die applications, plastic molds with elevated wear resistance, and screws.

P-20+Ni Grade Introduction:DIN 1.2738 steel is one kind of plastic mold steel, equivalent to AISI P20+Ni Tool Steel. While Nickel, chromium, and molybdenum are the alloying elements for hardness and toughness. 1.2738 tool steel is specially designed for the plastic mold industry, especially for big steel mold parts.
The steel 1.2738 is melted in an electrical furnace and refined with VOD or DH device. P-20+Ni Grade Application:1.2738 mold steel materials are generally used for relatively low-temperature applications such as die-casting dies and injection molds, synthetic plastic molds dies, especially for large plastic molds highly stressed in the core, hydroforming tools, such as up to 400 mm in the construction of plastic molds.
