The Tribometer is the measuring device, suitable for measuring the friction coefficient evolving in the wheel-rail contact.
The evolved sliding because of low friction coefficient can lead to corrugation and can also extend the stopping distance. Thus, this problem raises safety issues and it can also cause performance loss which has serious economic consequences. On the other hand, too high friction coefficient raises the number of rail defects, increases wear and rolling contact fatigue (RCF) failures.
Chakradhar Industries provide Track Based Lubrication system for gauge face lubrication as well as tribometer to measure the co-efficient of friction.
