PIPE FLANGES\r\n\r\nA pipe flange is a disc, collar or ring that attaches to pipe with the purpose of providing increased support for strength, blocking off\r\n\r\na pipeline or implementing the attachment of more items. Pipe flanges are usually welded or screwed to the pipe end and are\r\n\r\nconnected with bolts. A gasket is inserted between the two mating flanges to provide a tighter seal. Pipe flanges are either custom\r\n\r\nwith dimensions provided by the customer or they are manufactured according to published specifications. Several organizations\r\n\r\nand associations have published specifications that provide dimensional information as well as pressure specifications at different\r\n\r\ntemperatures. CHAMUNDA INDUSTRIES Supplies and stock 6 basic types of pipe flanges.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhat are Flanges & Types of Flanges\r\n\r\nA flange is a forged or cast ring of steel designed to connect sections of pipe or join pipe to a pressure Vessel, pump or any other integral flanges assembly\r\nFlanges are joined to each other by bolting and joined to the piping system by welding or threading.\r\n\r\nThe basic types of flanges are; Slip on, Blind, Weld Neck, Threaded, Socket Weld, Lap Joint and Orifice.\r\n\r\nFlanges are designed to the following pressure ratings; 150lb, 300lb, 400lb, 600lb, 900lb, 1500lb and 2500lb.\r\n\r\n \r\nThe most common facings machined on flanges are:\r\n\r\n(a) Raised face, 1/16 inch for 150lb and 300lb, ¼ inch for 400lb and heavier.\r\n\r\n(b) Flat face, for 150lb and 300lb only, other may be flat face on request.\r\n\r\n(c) Ring type joint, may be applied to all pressure ratings.\r\n\r\n ASTM SPECIFICATIONS\r\n\r\nASTM specifications regulate approved raw materials for which flanges can be made and specifications .\r\n\r\nFor stainless flanges are:\r\n\r\nASTM A.182 - Forged or Rolled Alloy Steel Pipe Flanges & Fittings for high temperature service.\r\n\r\nANSI AND MSS SPECIFICATIONS\r\n\r\nThe standards govern the dimensions and tolerances to which fitting are manufactured:\r\n\r\nANSI B. 16.5 - Steel Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings (½ inch to 24 inch nominal diameter)\r\n\r\nMSS SP.6 - Flange Facings\r\n\r\nMSS SP.25 - Marking of flanges\r\n\r\nMSS SP.39 - Bolts and Nuts for Flanges\r\n\r\nMSS SP.44 - Large Diameter Pipeline Flanges.
