Sequestering Agent are chemical compounds that function in a particular way that ions and molecules bind metal ions. Sequestering agents are also known as chelating agents. Chelation is used in treatment of metal poisoning and in industrial extraction of metals. Sequestering agents are available in both powder and liquid form, depending upon the type of applications. Sequestering agents are commonly used for the purpose of removing water hardness. They amalgamate with calcium and magnesium ions as well as other heavy metal ions in hard water. They compose molecules in which the ions are held so securely (sequestered) that they can no longer react.
