The Air Conditioning Test Rig unit is required to conduct experiments and demonstrate the process of cooling of atmospheric air. The unit Will be fitted with all instruments facilities so that temperature, pressure etc. may be measured at different points in the air conditioning system.

Objective :

• Study of vapor compression cycle for Refrigeration & air conditioner.
• To calculate Actual & Theoretical COP of Refrigeration system.
• To calculate Actual & Theoretical COP of Air Conditioning system.

Introduction :

• Refrigeration : Refrigeration is the branch of science that deals with the process of reducing and maintaining the temperature of a space of material below the temperature of the surrounding. Heat must be removed from the body being refrigerated and transferred to another whose temperature is below that of the refrigerated body.
• Air conditioning : Air conditioning is the simultaneous control of the temperature, humidity, motion and purity of the atmosphere in a confined space. Air conditioning applies in the heating season as well as in the cooling season. The air conditioning has wide applications in submarine ships, aircrafts and rockets. Air conditioning is associated with the human comfort and controlling the humidity ratio.

Double wall construction. Inner chamber made of stainless steel sheet. Supplied with removable perforted shelves. Exterior made out of thick mild steel sheet duly finished in white stoving enamel/powder coated paint with finished Colour combinations. Outer double wall door is provided with magnetic gasket and lock & key arrangement. Fitted by M.S (Mid-Steel) pipe and sheet stand.

Hermetic compressor of 1Ton Forced air condenser 1500 m3 / h Evaporator with 3-speed fan. Capillary-tube refrigerant regulation system & Adjusting the temperature using remote control  operation.

Experimentation :

• To study the Vapour Compression air conditioning cycle.
• To Calculate Co-efficient of performance-(COP) by the use of P-H diagram. 

Utilities Required :

• Electric supply Single Phase, 220 V AC, 50 Hz., 10 Amp.

• All components and instrumentation will be mounted on a Mild Steel Sheet panel 
• 9 Chanel  digital indicator with voltmeter and ammeter -  will allow measurement of motor power or evaporation
• Transformer with dimmer -  will change the load of the evaporator
• Float flow meter -  for the flow of the refrigerant and for the flow "of water
• Bourdon type pressure gauge  -  for the refrigerant pressure at the evaporator and for the condenser
• Dynamometer and tachometer  -  for measuring the mechanical power of the engine
• Expansion valve  -  thermostatic
• Type An evaporator -  equipped with electric resistances.A condenser cooled by water.
• Safety -  condensing pressure and evaporation temperature protected by automatic disconnector.
• The Ensemble will be grounded. Differential circuit breaker.
