Voacanga Seeds, also called kokiyar, pete-pete, kirongasi, ako dodo, ou, rungu. Voacanga (voacanga Africana), is a tropical tree, native to West Africa, that grows up to 30 feet tall. It has leaves that are up to 30 cm in length, and the tree produces yellow or white flowers, which become berries with dark brown seeds. The numerous dark brown seeds of the fruit are embedded in the pulp. This plant is used by the Diola of Africa against infectious diseases. It has also been reported to have been used to treat mental disorders and as an analgesic. West African shamans are said to ingest the root and bark as a cerebral stimulant and the seeds for visionary purposes. The alkaloids are the principal bioactive compounds responsible for its use in traditional medicine. The major alkaloids in Voacanga seeds include voacamine, voacangine, vobasine, and ibogaine. Others include voacristine, voacamidine, voacarine, voaphylline, vobtusine, voalfolidine and tabersonine. Voacanga Africana is closely connected to the iboga plant. Contains Voacangine and Vocamine, each of which are closely related to ibogaine. The seeds used by shamans to induce visionary experiences. Voacanga seeds Africana aids in suppressing medicine addiction and used as hypotensives. The alkaloids are of particular interest to the pharmaceutical industry. Picralima nitida is a tree and native to West Africa. The dried seeds (akuamma seeds) from this plant are used in traditional medicine throughout West Africa, particularly in Cameroon, Ghana as well as in the Ivory Coast and Nigeria. The seeds are crushed or powdered and taken orally. Akuamma seeds have opioid analgesic activity and is often used a painkiller. There are five alkaloids in Akuamma seeds : akuammidine, akuammine, akuammicine, akuammigine and pseudo-akuammigine) . Akuammine is the main alkaloid found in the seeds, comprising 0.56% of the dried powder. It is structurally related to both yohimbine and mitragynine, both of which are alkaloid plant products with uses in medicine.
