The full-closure core barrel is a kind of perfect and unique conventional coring tool in the world which breaks the core by mechanical loading (wob). The fingers of the core catcher can pinch together and secure the core when activated. With a thin sleeve pre-installed in the core catcher, the core catcher can close completely. The full-closure core barrel has applications in highly unconsolidated formations such as heavy oil sands where there is virtually no mechanical structure and the core is held primarily by the viscous reservoir fluids. Main structural features and advantages the full-closure core barrel mainly consists of mechanical loading assembly, locator sub, swivel assembly, spiral stabilizer, outer tube, inner tube, inner tube shoe, full-closure core catcher assembly, core bit and relevant handling tools. 1 the mechanical loading assembly (mla) is composed of the top sub, the hexagonal rod, the seal ring, the ball seat, the hexagonal case and the pressuring central stem. The mla is used to break the core after core drilling. The working video of the mla while breaking the core is shown in the video file. 2 spiral stabilizer can improve the working stability of coring tool. This kind of stabilizer has spiral ribs, with tungsten carbide or wear-resistant coatings on each rib face. The rib faces is featured with mirror-polished finish, no blowholes, high wear resistance and small torque loss. 3 the swivel assembly will be adjusted for meeting clearance: the increase or decrease of inner barrel length can be realized by adding and removing spacing shims. The operation is simple and reliable. 4 there is no cartridge for bearings and no seal at both ends, which allow small amount of drilling fluid flowing through to cool and lubricate the bearings. It is characterized by simple structure, flexible operation and long service life.

Application The Conventional Core Barrel is complete in forming a set, advanced on technology and a perfect tool in conventional coring operation. The tool is mainly used to obtain core in oil drilling well or in geological prospecting. Can assemble one to three inner and outer barrels in a single run and the tool is available to soft, medium, hard and mix stratum. Main structural features and advantages of conventional coring tool: 1. The outer barrel is made of seamless thick-wall steel tube with high strength. The outer barrel, machined with spiral stabilizers, makes itself own extra high strength and stability. The outstanding features are beneficial to increase core recovery and lengthen the working life of diamond coring bit. 2. Besides the steel inner barrel, fiberglass inner barrel can also be offered, which has light weight, high resistance to heat and corrosion, high strength and smooth inside wall which contributes to a small drag force when allowing cores to enter the inner barrel easily. These features are very helpful for improving core recovery in loose and fractured formations. 3. The lengths of each joint of inner and outer barrel sections are identical. Operators can assemble a core barrel string with different lengths at will. 4. The core barrel stabilizer is finished with spiral ribs, which are hardfaced by hard tungsten carbide. The stabilizer is at last glazed and does not contain pores on the surface, which is helpful in reducing torque and improving wear resistance. 5. The axial clearance between the outer and inner core barrels is easy to be adjusted. 6. In case the tool is stuck, the safety joint allows the inner barrel and core in it to be pulled out of the hole while leaving the outer barrel in the hole. Fishing the outer barrel out of the hole becomes easy. 7. Complete set of ancillary tools is provided to simplify coring procedures, saving a lot of preparation time.
