The centrifugal process is a technology used to produce Fiberglass tapered poles. The product is obtained by placing the reinforcements (fiberglass roving) in a rotary mold having a cavity in the form of a truncated cone. The fibers are pressed outwards against the walls of the cavity by centrifugal force. The polymer matrix impregnates the glass fibers and polymerizes in contact with the heated mould.
Poles can be produced via the centrifugal process with constant or differentiated thicknesses thanks to the possibility to distribute the reinforcement fibers inside the mould in any of a variety of configurations. Poles can thus be produced with reinforcements only in certain critical points depending on the specific application without increasing the thickness or weight of the pole.
Fiberglass poles are a classic application of fiberglass that can withstand heavy mechanical loading and the harshest atmospheric conditions. In tapered or cylindrical geometry, they are suitable for a wide variety of applications for general lighting, traffic light poles, sign posts, urban fixtures, electrical power transmission poles, telephone poles, flagpoles, advertising poles, and protective fencing poles.
The use of fiberglass ensures a lightweight pole that can easily be transported and handled manually. It does not require a cement base, electrical earth, surface treatment, or periodic painting, making this product significantly more economical than steel, aluminium, wood, or cement.
