How to use Amlodipine Oral :

  • Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. Take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. If used for angina, this medication must be taken regularly to be effective. It should not be used to treat angina when it occurs.
  • This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.

 

Precaution : Before using this medication, tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: a certain structural heart problem (aortic stenosis), very low blood pressure, liver .


Drug interaction :

  • Co-administration of multiple doses of 10 mg of amlodipine with 80 mg resulted in a 77% increase in exposure to compared to alone. Limit the dose of .
  • Co-administration of a 180 mg daily dose of with 5 mg amlodipine in elderlyhypertensive patients resulted in a 60% increase in amlodipine systemic exposure , Itraconazole, may increase the plasma concentrations of amlodipine to a greater extent.
  • While using hypotensive and vasodilator effects may be reduced. May need to stop if BP control or renal function deteriorates. A lower dosage of may avoid this interaction.
  • Tizanidin May cause severe hypotension. Monitor BP. Trimethoprim: May result in cardial arrest. Elderly patients with renal impairment or patients on high-dose Trimethoprim are at increased risk.


Side Effects :

  • Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as feeling like you might pass out swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest or chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling. Headache dizziness , anxiety, fatigue, insomnia; nervousness; tremor. Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, back pain, cramps , muscle cramps , musculoskeletal pain, confusion, numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips, shortness of breath, swelling of the ankles, feet, or lower legs


Pregnancy : There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Amlodipine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus.


Nursing Mothers :  It is not known whether amlodipine is excreted in human milk. In the absence of this information, it is recommended that nursing be discontinued while Amlodipine is administered.
