Garnet is a high hardness, high density granular filter media. It can be used extremely effectively as the lower strata in a dual media filter bed. Its high specific gravity as well as its chemical and abrasive resistance makes garnet ideal for filtration. Garnet, with its high density, is heavier than most other filter media. Garnet’s higher density provides stability within your dual media bed, allowing the filter sized garnet to filter down to 10 – 20 micron particulates.

Silex Quartz Filter Sand is used as last layer of sand in filter bed. Below silex sand, support pebbles are layered out to support sand layers. Quartz sand is a silica, crystalline quartz media which can be used as highly efficient filter media for the reduction of suspended matter. Its fractured edges and irregular surface provides a high surface area and complex flow path for efficient removal of suspended matter throughout the filter bed. It's larger particle size creates less pressure loss through the filter and allows deeper sediment penetration into the bed for higher sediment loading and longer filter runs.
