The cold oil enters shell side of FEVAC at one end under vacuum. It flows through baffles and channels which ensure efficient heat exchange between shell and tube side fluids. After reaching the other end of shell, oil flows to deodorizer by gravity.

REGV, Regenerative Vacuum Heat Exchanger, recovers heat of deodorized edible oils and fats by cooling it in deodorizing stage which in turn heats incoming bleached oil. This heat exchange occurs under vacuum and sparging steam conditions.
Dewaxing or Winterization is a process to remove solids (saturated glycerides or waxes) from oil. These solids cause cloudiness in oil at low temperature.
This process is suitable for oils like Sunflower Oil, Cottonseed Oil, Corn Oil, Ricebran Oil etc which have wax contents more than permissible limit.
The oil is mixed with filter-aid and is cooled at desired temperature in Crystallizers. Crystallizers are equipped with agitator to bring first crystals into contact with more oil to make bigger crystals.
It also has cooling coils which ensures gradual cooling of oil to the crystallization temperature. After the desired crystallization time, the oil mass is filtered in plate and frame filters/horizontal PLF/gravity filters where crystallized waxes separate from oil.

SCR-EVAPScrapped Surface Heat Exchanger are commonly used in food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. It is ideally suited for products that are viscous, sticky and fouling.
InSCR-EVAPproduct is brought in contact with the heat transfer surface which is rapidly and continuously scraped, thereby achieving high heat transfer coefficients. In addition to maintaining efficient and uniform heat transfer, the scraper blades also provide simultaneous mixing and agitation. Since, product is in contact with the heating surface only for few seconds, it is prevented from scorching and other undesirable reactions.
SCR-EVAPconsists of a cylindrical shell with rotor. The cylindrical shell has a heating jacket containing heating medium as steam or hot water. Mechanical seal at each end of rotor prevents leakage and contamination of product. It is provided with a VFD for speed variation.

One of the key steps in the refining process is the elimination of impurities from crude vegetable oils, especially the phosphatides or so-called gums. They need to be removed for two main reasons: they are responsible for high refining losses and they decompose, darken the oil due to their thermal instability.
Gums which are removed in Water degumming stage, pose a critical disposal problem. To overcome this, gums can be dried and converted to Lecithin.
The hydrated gums extracted in water degumming process are heated to 90 100 deg C and passed through series of Scrapped Surface heat exchangers and Evaporators where moisture is removed and brought to below 0.5%. It is a two stage drying process i.e. at 50 mm Hg abs and 20 mm Hg abs pressures. The resultant dried gums are very light in color which has high commercial value in local as well as global market.
Dried gums are processed further for Lecithin powder manufacturing. Soy Lecithin is a very good emulsifier and is typically used in confectionaries, bakery products and pharmaceutical industries.
