Our clients can avail from us Kokam, which is widely appreciated for its aromatic and nutritive values. It is a slender evergreen small tree that grows drooping branches. The plant can be up to 18 mtr high. Kokam fruits are purple in colour and spherical in shape. The fruits consist 5-8 seeds compressed in an acid pulp.

Origin and Distribution:
It is in oriental plant that is native to Southern India, and mainly found in the tropical rain forest of Western Ghats of Ratnagiri, Konkan, Coorg and Wynadu region. Kokam also grows in the evergreen forests of Assam, Khasi, Jantia Hills, West Bengal and Gujarat.

Uses:

  • The ripened, rind and juice is widely used in cooking
  • Dried and salted rind is used asa condiment
  • For garnishing and adding acid flavour to curries
  • For preparing attractive, red, pleasant flavoured cooling syrup
  • Kokkam butter is widely used as an edible fat and it is highly is nutritive, demulcent and antiseptic
  • The rind has antioxidant property
