Concrete Platform Weighbridges :

• With ever-rising steel prices, it makes great economic sense to install concrete platform weighbridges. Apart from low costs, it offers high strength and is virtually maintenance free – requiring no painting every year. Its life is 100 years as compared to that of 15 years of a typical steel platform. Due to the advantages of concrete platforms, the developed world has been using them for over 30 years. In Europe 95% of electronic weigh bridges are made with concrete platform.
• As the platform gets longer, cost saving increases. Modern day transportation is moving towards using longer trucks and trailers. MNC truck manufacturers, such as Volvo, who have started manufacturing in India, are introducing longer models which are capable of carrying heavier payloads. The concrete platform weighbridge can bear heavier loads. That is why all modern bridges that one sees on the city roads are either concrete or composite.
• A heavily loaded truck entering the weigh bridge gives heavy jerks on braking. Vibration thus caused, reduces the life and accuracy of the load cell and thus needs to be reduced to minimum. Vibration is much more in the case of steel as compared to concrete as it absorbs vibration.

• Enhancement - The construction of the concrete platform is designed so as to carry a load upto 100+ tons by using heavy duty load cells. Hence the capacity of the weighbridge can easily be enhanced up to 100 tons, if required, without incurring any extra cost whereas in the case of steel platform weighbridge, the capacity cannot be increased with the existing steel structure. Joints & plates of higher proportions would be required. Add to all this the cost of the cells which will need to be replaced.
• Maintenance - Due to rattling of steel structure, nuts & bolts get loosened thereby requiring periodic tightening. Also steel gets rusted due to changes in the environment over a period. Being a totally RCC structure, there is no rusting of components in concrete platforms hence they are totally maintenance free.
• Design - Steel being flexible tends to bend & rattles when the truck comes onto the platform. Due to this there is a lateral pull of the load cells wherein ideally the load should be transferred vertically. The concrete platform is a rigid monolithic structure. As soon as the vehicle comes over the platform, the load gets distributed to all 6-load cells.
• Strength - Steel structure being lighter by weight than the gross load of the vehicle coming on the platform, a cantilever effect takes place with inverse forces taking place at the ends thereby having a tendency to twist the steel structure & causing weighing errors. The concrete platform being a heavy mass has more stability. Hence, no inverse forces take place in the platform.
• Lightening - Steel structured weigh bridges are prone to electro-static charge & high electric field caused by strong winds & lightening which may damage the weighing instrumentation & load cells. The platform of concrete structure is totally immune to such environmental harshness, thereby the system more stable & maintenance free.
• Life - The steel platform/girder structure gets weak due to rusting & loosening of nuts etc. The top plate & joints have a bending effect after few years. The concrete platform has a very long life and no bending effect takes place.
• Transportation - The steel structured weighbridge is fabricated at works & is transported to site by truck for installation on the foundation thus incurring heavy transportation costs. The construction of the concrete platform is cast on the foundation, at site, thus saving on transportation.

The loose parts such as girders, plates and transoms in a conventional weighbridge and the main girders in a surface mounted type have a relative movement due to cyclic loading of truck weighing, though they are held by fasteners. In the long run, this effect leads to wear and tear of the parts and the same need replacement. Our weighbridge comprises of modules which are fully welded and have no loose parts, hence the effect of cyclic loading does not cause any problem and thereby keeping your maintenance cost to a minimum.
• The conventional weighbridge with Girders and Plates or a surface mounted type has a 4 load cells support in its corners and the girder has long span and hence is subject to bending in the middle. This bending tilts the load cells out of its vertical position, resulting in load loss due to angular force over the load cell.
• In a typical surface mounted type, the structure is supported with load cells through rocker assembly which holds the structure rigidly and thereby the shock load due to dynamic force created by a moving truck is directly transferred to the load cells which not only reduces the life span of load cell, but also leads to erratic performance of load cells in due course.
• This weighbridge does not require an elaborate civil foundation work as in the case of a Conventional weighbridge. Our weighbridge could also be installed permanently on a hard surface with a concrete mat or on M.S. Plates under the load cell points and the ramps.
• All the weighbridges available today whether pit or pitless requires civil foundation costing at least Rs. 4 lakhs to Rs.6 Lakhs. This could be minimized to a great extent by installing our weighbridge. Our weighbridge could be installed as a pit mounted or pitless type permanently in a site if need arises. General Introduction :

• This type of weighbridge / Truck scale is most suitable where the excavation work for foundation is difficult or construction of pit is expensive. Since the structure is above ground level, vehicles can approach the weighbridge only from two directions where the ramps are provided. This type of weighbridge requires more space.
• In Pitless Type Weighbridge RCC ramp work must be required at least 3 meters for both sides for easy movement of vehicle.

Robust Load Cells and Digitizers : The most important components of an electronic weighbridge are the load cells and digitizers. Eagle has made both of them very robust and hence, the best available in the country.

• A truck to be weighed is directly driven to the platform of a weighbridge and hence, the platform is subjected to the entire load and vibrations created by a moving truck. Our weighbridge platforms (made of steel) are designed very carefully to withstand these loads without damage and is highly durable. • The next most important component is the mounting assembly for load cells. This transfers the load from the platform to the load cells. This is a cradle assembly which is free to move in the horizontal axes and hence takes all side loads generated due to the vehicular movements on the platform. The mounting assembly consists of three parts namely, the Bottom Plate, Rocker assembly and Top Bracket.
• The signal from the load cells (in milli-volt) is carried to the digitizer, in the control room, through a 4 - core shielded cable. The cable has a very low electrical resistance and hence, no loss of signals. The cables from different load cells, in a weighbridge, meets in weather proof junction box. The junction Box is of fully molded type and houses the necessary terminal blocks for interconnection of load cell out puts. The Junction box also carries a set of surge arrestors, to protect the entire system from lightning and electrical surges.
