Harmonic Protection Relay

S-PRO 4000is a digital, microprocessor-based sub-harmonic protection system that provides comprehensive sub-harmonic protection for transmission lines at any voltage level, particularly those with serial compensation and interconnected with wind farms. Use the S-PRO Sub-Harmonic Protection Relay for monitoring and protection of uncontrolled sub-harmonics, ensuring a reliable operation of the power grid.
Undamped sub-harmonic current oscillations created by series capacitors interacting with the wind system can cause serious damage to wind turbine controllers and also to conventional generators. The wind turbine's own mechanical system interactions (tower-to-blade) can also generate sub-harmonics, which are detrimental to induction generators, transformers, and may cause resonance at the point of common coupling in the electrical grid.
The S-PRO 4000 relay detects these sub harmonic oscillations and allows the utility to monitor and protect the power system by isolating the healthy grid from sub-harmonic generation sources.

Synchronizing Protection Relay

ARGUS 7is a combined check and system synchronising relay which can automatically select check or system synchronise from measurements of the relative phase angles between line and bus voltages. The relay will prevent closure of the circuit breaker if either the phase angle, slip frequency or the voltage magnitude of the incoming and running voltages fall outside prescribed limits.
If the parameters are within the limits the relay will issue an output which can be used to close the circuit breaker directly or in conjunction with an autoreclose scheme. Both the check and system synchronise functions have independent settings and blocking features. The relay includes split system detection with a variable time delay, which can be used for blocking purposes within delayed autoreclose schemes.
Synchronising bypass logic is provided to connect a dead line or bus to a live line or bus. For manual synchronising the relay includes a circuit breaker close guard feature which is used to prevent the control switch being held closed during a synchronising operation. This feature is implemented using internal logic and removes the need for an external relay.

Application

  • Check-synchronizing
  • System-synchronizing

Numerical Auto Reclose Relay

the relay is suitable up to four shots. It consists of four cards viz.front fascia, power supply status input & output card and micro controller card are housed in a compact 3n non draw-out case.
micro controller does the sequence control and timing function. The dip switches on the relay front fascia select different operating functions and time setting.there is a watchdog timer in the relay which continuously monitors the program, put off ^power on^ led indication if the watch dog timer elapses.
to start an auto re close cycle, the initiating contact from the protective relay must be closed without chatter for at least 12 milliseconds.

inputs:two optically isolated inputs are provided. One is used to take the three phase protection operated contact inputs to initiate the auto rec lose relay.
the another input is used to block the re close functions if the external blocking input is initiated.

reclose timer:the relay has four re-close timers. The relay selects the respective timer sequentially depending upon the number of re-close selection and the re-close initiation.

reclaim timer:there is the common reclaim timer. It operates in series with the re-close timers. The over all reclaim time delay from the relay initiation to relay reset is therefore reclaim timer setting plus re-close time. For every initiation the reclaim time counting are resets automatically.

lockout function:when the number of shots switch is in off mode the protection operated contact input initiation condition it will energize the lockout relay and lockout led indication and it blocks the re-close function.
when the external blocking input is initiated, the re-close function is blocked and it energize external blocking led, lockout led and lockout relay.
as the relay allows the maximum of four re-close depending upon the number of shots selection, the number of shots is less than the number of initiation within the reclaim time it will energize the lockout relay and its led indication.

Over Voltage Relay

MVT 181is a numerical true RMS single pole relay consists of two elements. Each element can be selected for under voltage function or over voltage function or switched off. The characteristics setting, voltage setting and time multiplier setting are independently settable for each element and the voltage setting is in terms of voltage. Hence this relay can be used as a two stage under voltage or two stage over voltage protection.
Multiple Characteristics:There are four operating characteristics for over voltage function and two operating characteristics for under voltage function.

Overvoltage Characteristics:
Definite Time Lag (DTL)Long Time Inverse (LTI)Extremely Inverse 1(El 1)Extremely Inverse 2(El 2)

Undervoltage Characteristics:
Definite Time Lag (DTL)Extremely Inverse 1(El 1)
Two elements:Two stage O/V Two stage U/V Or one O/V and one U/V

Timer:The relay is provided with two status inputs, one of which is to be connected across the circuit breaker auxiliary contact 52a. From this the circuit breaker closed or opened condition is found out. This information is used to introduce a time delay between successive switching of the capacitor banks which allows the capacitor bank to discharge to a safer value after disconnected from a live network. This timer function is a settable one and its output (N/O) contact is used in the closing circuit of the circuit breaker. The completion of this time delay is also indicated by ^TIMER^ LED in the front fascia. In addition the same status input can be used for Trip circuit supervision also.
During other under voltage and over voltage applications this timer function can be disabled or used as an independent timer function.

Trip Circuit Supervision:Pre-closing and post-closing supervision of the trip circuit and trip supply is possible with this relay. A low value of DC current is passed through the entire trip circuit to monitor the trip coil, its auxiliary switch and the associated wiring. One of the status input is connected across the tripping contact and another status input is connected across the 52a contact (auxiliary contact of the circuit breaker) in series with the trip coil. During trip circuit fail condition the monitoring current flow ceases and the energised status input drops off and the relay gives a contact output to indicate this condition. In addition to this contact an LED is provided in the front fascia to indicate the ^T.C. FAIL^ condition. A time delay of approximately 400 msecs has been given to avoid false trip circuit fail indication at the time of normal tripping. Thus trip circuit supervision is the integral part of the relay. If this function is not required the same can be put off in the setting menu.

Hertz Protection Relay

MBT 191relay can be connected either in phase -phase or phase - neutral PT secondary circuit. Nominal voltage which is settable (50 -150 V) in the relay could be chosen according to the connection. And the nominal frequency is settable either as 50 or 60 HZ.

Two Elements:MBT 191 relay consists of two elements. Each element can be independently put off or set to a wide range of overfluxing setting (b1 and b2). Both elements are having definite time characteristics and four types of inverse characteristics. Each element is provided with two numbers of ^N/O^ contacts independent to each other. Both elements can be selected appropriately to give two stages of protection for the equipment. In addition to these two elements, starting function of these elements are indicated by a starter LED and a changeover contact is available for annunciation.

Multiple Characteristics:Both elements are provided with definite time characteristics (DTL) and four types of inverse characteristics.

Cooling Time Delay:This relay also has resetting time feature. After trip occurs due to over fluxing, till the resetting time delay (which is settable in the relay) the starter indication will be on and the relay cannot be reset. Only after resetting the relay the breaker has to be closed again. This feature gives enough cooling time, which is necessary to cool the equipment when any over-excitation occurs and before it is restored again into the operation.

Time Lag Relay

MDDARelay consists of a power supply unit, a timer unit and an attracted armature auxiliary relay. Resistor and Zener diode combination of the power supply unit provides low voltage stabilised DC supply to the static timer circuit. Non-linear resistors are used in the power supply unit for surge suppression.

The timer unit consists of a timer circuit and a thumb wheel switch. The thumb wheel switch mounted on the name plate of the relay provides precise and high resolution time setting. The timer unit operates a reed relay which in turn energises an attracted armature auxiliary relay. This auxiliary relay is provided to achieve higher contact rating and flag indication, if required. MDDA can be provided either as a delay on pick up relay or as a delay on drop-off relay.

A normally open contact is used for initiating time delay on pick up relay and output element gets energised after the set time delay. In the case of delay on drop off relay, the output element is normally energised and with the normally closed initiating contact opening out, the output elements gets de-energised after the set time delay.
