This Saree is made with the exquisite Matka Silk. This particular variety of silk is made from Mulberry silk wherein short silk fibres that are still coated with gum (sericin) are spun by hand.The texture of Matka silk is rough and somewhat resembles linen, though it has a sheen that is typical of silk.Though the silk is mainly obtained from the states of Karnataka and Kashmir, its spinning is done in the Malda and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal.The saree has a yellow base with a red border having the popular temple design, which is a very traditional Indian motif.
