Switching These types of brakes require DC Voltage to release. Switching can be done on either side. However for higher cycle time / faster engagement & disengagement, switching must be carried out on DC side only. To protect contactor points, coil & switches, resistor and capacitor networks must be provided across the contactor to restrict the high restrict the inductive voltage/brake EMF which is produced when power is switched off. |

Construction
Brake Motor is combination of an AC induction motor and an electromagnetic DC fail safe brake.
As shown in the figure brae motor consists of the following
Switching
There are three different methods of switching : Separate DC supply from control panel to the brake coil, figure 1)
AC Switching
Brake coil connections are shown at AC side AC switching is recommended when braking time is not critical.
DC Switching
Switching is carried out on DC side. Once braking of the motor takes place intermittently, DC switching must be carried out. A Resistor and Capicitor network must be connected across the brake coil and parallel to it.
