Solar dry storageSince ages, people have been using sun for drying different types of food products. That way, the food can be conserved and therefore consumed or sold in the market. However, drying in the open sun may not be hygienic, it takes a long time to dry and rain may slow down the drying process. Due to time constraints, the food is not always fully dried, sometimes resulting in re-growth of bacteria and fungus. In order to obtain hygienic food that can be stored for a longer time, the solar drying technology could be used.
The traditional method of drying is to spread the food openly in the sun. In this drying method, the food is often contaminated, damaged or lost by dust and animals A solar dryer is a closed unit, resulting in several advantages:
Solar thermal power is trapped, resulting in a higher temperature around the food items. This decreases the drying time & nutritional values of are conserved In rainy periods, rain will not slow down the drying process.
There are two types of solar dryers , direct exposed to sun rays and indirect drying. In Solar Dryer sunlight used to evaporate the moisture from food items. In typical solar dryer glass or plastic lid allows the sunlight into the dryer, the black painted tray absorbs sunlight effectively and converts it into heat, this results the temperature of the food items increases & moisture get evaporated .
inner atmosphere of the dryer becomes damp & this damp air escapes through the upper outlets same time fresh air enters through the lower inlets. the moisture content of food is decreased more quickly than in open air.

But if this losses could be prevented by better and cost effective post harvesting process.
We are very well aware of cold storage, where the agricultural produce is being stores in lower temperature and being used as and when required. solar dry storage is our unique concept were agricultural produce could be dehydrated using solar drying system and then preserved in vacuumed packed packaging , so that it could be used when it is required , comparing to cold storage running cost of solar dry storage system could be very low because dehydrated agricultural produce could be stored in normal temperature . As in our country there is large amount of solar energy available this could be used to dehydrate the agricultural produce. This dry storage cold run on back up system of any other fuel like LPG or even waste from farms. With the time eating habits of people are changing ready to eat , ready to cook food products are increasing in demands. Use of powders is increasing , many snacks industries need dehydrated powders for their products.
This type of project could be installed in any interior village because it is difficult to carry their agricultural produce in big cities , after drying the volume and the weight of material reduces and it results into reducing in transport cost. This project could be very useful to avoid the wastage of fruits and vegetables.
