Alongside the familiar drive components, rope elevators also require a large number of guide pulleys in different sizes. These guide pulleys are primarily made nowadays from grey cast iron and plastic. The specially modified cast polyamide TECAST GM yellow was selected for this safety-relevant application.Due to the specific weight of only 1.15 gcbm, guide pulleys made of TECAST GM yellow are approximately seven times lighter than pulleys made of conventional grey cast iron.
Styrene polymers are thermoplastic materials which occur in amorphous as well as in semi crystalline forms. In addition to the widespread, transparent Polystyrene (PS), various copolymers like the synthetic terpolymer acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene (ABS) represent an important group within this material family. The unsaturated hydrocarbon styrene (as basic material or copolymer component) is characteristic for the whole material family and significantly responsible for the properties.
Engineering plastics can be used permanently at temperatures between 100°C and 150°C. In general, this product group is also referred to as technical thermoplastics. Engineering plastics demonstrate good mechanical characteristics, high dimensional stability, good chemical resistance and resistance to wear.
High temperature plastics have a permanent operating temperature of more than 150°C. It is precisely these materials that bring the superior properties of polymers - such as sliding friction characteristics, weight saving and chemical resistance - to bear, even at high permanent operating temperatures.
