Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) is an inorganic polymer coagulant widely used in water and wastewater treatment. It is produced by the partial hydrolysis of aluminium chloride, resulting in a polymerized product with the general formula:[Al(OH)Cl]
PAC contains both positively charged aluminium ions and hydroxyl ions, giving it a strong coagulating power. When added to water, it neutralizes the negative charges on suspended particles, causing them to clump together (flocculate) and settle out.
