Differing from the catechol tannins, chestnut is very stable to the effects of light, as it does not appreciably oxidize in air, and for this reason in addition to the acidic properties already mentioned, is a suitable constituent of heavy leather tanning blends. Usage:-chesnut extract is mainly used in mixture with quebracho and mimosa tannins for the manufacture of sole, saddler and equipment leathers.
