Ricinoleic acid (12- hydroxy-9-cis-octadecenoic acid) is a light coloured, unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid that naturally occurs in mature castor plant (Ricinus communis L., Euphorbiaceae) which constitutes for about 90% of the castor oil. Ricinoleic acid serves as an excellent reactant for the synthesis of several different derivatives including Sebacic acid, Undecylenic acid, Methyl ricinoleate, Hydroxy stearic acid(HSA) etc. Primary uses of Ricinoleic Acid include, coatings, plastics, inks and cosmetics.Ricinoleic acid is effective in preventing the growth of numerous species of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, and molds.

Commercial grade castor oil is one of the standard& most common grades of castor oil, used for many industrial applications. It is also known as the industrial grade castor oil. It is a pale yellow, viscous, oily liquid insoluble in water. It contains more than 87% of a unique hydroxy fatty acid viz.Ricinoleic acid. Industrial or commercial grade castor oil is obtained from a mixture of the first pressing and second phase of production - solvent extraction. It can act as a substrate for the preparation of other grades of castor oil including DCO, FSG castor oil, Turkey red oil and Pale pressed castor oil etc.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil (HCO) or castor wax is a hard, brittle wax. It is odorless and insoluble in water.It is produced by addition of hydrogen to castor oil (hydrogenation process) in the presence of a nickel catalyst. This is done by bubbling hydrogen gas into the castor oil, during which the Ricinoleic Acid becomes fully saturated to give a viscous waxy like substance with a melting point of 61-69oC. Hydrogenation of castor oil accounts for the largest single use of castor oil for a standard commodity. The HCO is insoluble in water and most organic solvents, but it is soluble in hot solvents. It is water resistant while retaining lubricity, polarity and surface wetting properties. It is this insolubility that makes HCO valuable to the lubricants markets. It is perfect for metal drawing lubricants and multipurpose industrial greases. Hydrogenated Castor Oil is used in polishes, cosmetics, electrical capacitors, carbon paper, lubrication, and coatings and greases where resistance to moisture, oils and petrochemical products is required.

Pale Pressed Castor Oil, a premium product in Castor Oil category is produced from the first pressing of the castor seed. It is characteristically clear and free from suspended matter. It is light in color and low in acidity.Pale Presses Castor Oil is used in industrial products that require oil with lighter color and lower acidity.With proper certification, the pale oil may be acceptable for medicinal, pharmaceutical or cosmetic use. It is used as lubricant component of coatings for vitamin and mineral tablets. It is also used as an ingredient for petroleum oil-field de-emulsification. Also used as capacitor impregnate and for manufacture of polyurethane casting resins. Used in hydraulic fluids for automobiles, trucks and machinery

12 HSA is an off-white solid fatty acid used to manufacture lithium and calcium based lubricating greases. When reacted with an ester, 12 HSA provides a hard finish for the automotive and small appliance industries. 12 HSA is used in grease manufacture, plastics lubrication and as a raw material for the synthesis of more complex chemicals. It is used as a high hydroxyl castor based wax, as a wax ingredient. 12-HSA based greases have excellent heat tolerance like the sodium greases and the water resistance of calcium greases.
