Colchicine is an alkaloid, originally extracted from plants Colchicum autumnale, also known as autumn crocus or meadow saffron. Generally, Colchicine is used to treat gout, arthritis, inflammations, familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), pericarditis, Behcets disease, and other health problems. FMF is an inborn condition that causes episodes of fever, pain, swelling of the stomach area, lungs and joints in adults and children of age group 4 and older. Cholchicine has potent anti-inflammatory, anti-gout, anti-tumor properties, effectively treating pain and related symptoms. It may work by stopping natural processes which causing swelling and other gout-related symptoms and FMF.
