Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock of argillaceous origin formed by the composition of mud and stone sediment that splits into thin, smooth-surfaced layers. Because it can be split so thinly, not surprisingly slate is a popular roofing material, but more unusually it can also be used as a work surface. Slates are suitable for flooring, wall cladding, fire places and stair treads and is ideal for patios, outdoor steps, entrance ways, kitchens, shops and restaurants. In north India we have slates like Multicolor Peacock, Jak Black and Jak Multicolor.
