Groundnut is the major oil seed of India. It accounts for around 25% of the total oil seed production of the country. Annual production of Indian Peanuts and Indian Peanuts oil are around 5-8mln and 1.5 mln tons respectively. Peanuts Production is highly vulnerable to rainfall deviations and display huge fluctuation between years.Global trade of Indian Peanuts or Indian Groundnut oil is to the maximum of 100000 tons a year. EU and US are major importers. Senegal and Argentina are the major Peanuts exporters.

The Soybean Meal is extracted from the Soy bean, regarded as an important crop throughout the world. Soybean Meal is regarded as the best vegetable protein food source and accounts for over 65% of the worlds protein requirements. Much of the Soybean meal is used as animal feed and rest is used for varied human consumption purposes like in baking and meat substitutes. A solvent extraction method is used in the production of the Soybean meal where the beans are first crushed and subsequently, the Soy oil and Soybean meal are extracted. It is a highly preferred food source as it is easily digestible, protein rich and also due to its energy giving nature.
The castor cake is obtained during the crushing of castor seeds, which contains 9% castor oil. This by-product of castor oil is called de-oiled cake. The oil cake is further transferred to solvent extraction plant for extraction of the oil from the cake. This de-oiled cake is a best natural fertilizer, which contains 5% of nitrogen, 2% of potash and 1% of calcium. The protein content of castor seed meal varies from 21-48% depending upon the extent of decortications. It has an ideal amino acid profile with moderately high Cystine, mithionine, and isoleucine.
The Castor Seed Meal is highly nutritious and is enriched with proteins, crude fiber, nitrogen, phosphorous, etc. Having high oil and moisture content, Castor Seed Meal is widely used as natural manure.
Gujarat is one of major producers of groundnut. Gujarat even tops the List of Major Exporting State in India of groundnuts. Apart from Gujarat there are few more states which has a good production of groundnuts such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Rajasthan. Indian Groundnut Extraction is a very healthy protein for poultry feed. Groundnut cake extractions are used for animal feed formulation. The cake remaining after extraction of the oil from groundnuts is a valuable protein supplement.
Rice bran meal though has only 14-16-% proteins which is very less compared to other oilmeals like soybean meal, peanut meal, rapeseed meal etc, it has low fibre content which makes it free from rancidity problems and hence is in great demand for use in poultry as well as in cattle feed. Rice bran meal is also heard getting used as organic fertiliser and for medicinal purpose.
It is a biennial, aromatic, stout, glabrous, 1.5 to 1.8 mtr high. The ripe fruit (seed) is small, oblong, cylindrical, 6.8mm long, straight or slightly curved, greenish yellow, deeply furrowed, 5 ridged and having agreeable aroma.
Fenugreek seed is the ripe fruit of an annual herb. This robust herb has light green leaves, is 30-60 cm tall and produces slender, beaked pods, 10-15 cm long, each pod contains 10-20 small hard yellowish brown seeds, which are smooth and oblong, about 3mm long, each grooved across one corner, giving them a hooked appearance.
Coriander is an important spice crop having a prime position in flavouring food. The plant is a thin stemmed, small, bushy herb, 25 to 50 cm in height with many branches and umbels. Leaves are alternate, compound. The whole plant has a pleasant aroma. Inflorescence is a compound umbel comprises 5 smaller umbels. Fruit is globular, 3 to 4 mm diameter, when pressed break into two locules each having one seed. Fruit has delicate fragrance; seeds are pale white to light brown in colour.
There are two distinct morphological types, one erect and tall with a comparatively stronger main shoot and the other bushy with a relatively weaker main shoot and longer spreading branches.
Chilli is the dried ripe fruit of the genus Capsicum. Capsicum annuum is an annual sub shrub, the flowers of which are borne singly and fruits usually pendent, which provide red peppers, cayenne, paprika and chillies and sweet pepper (bell pepper) a mild form with large inflated fruits.Capsicum frutescence is a perennial chilly with small sized pods which are highly pungent. It is commonly known as bird chilly and Tabasco.
Roasted gram is known as gram or Bengal gram, garbanzo or garbanzo bean and sometimes known as Egyptian pea, ceci, cece or channa. Its seeds are high in protein. It is one of the earliest cultivated legumes.
