Dryers

Our Complete range of products are the Freeze Drying, Cooled EM Freeze Dryer, Critical Point Dryer and Large Chamber Critical Point Dryer.

The Freeze Drying

Freeze drying specimen preparation reduces the distortion and shrinkage effects that occur when a wet specimen dries by normal evaporation. Distortion is due to the forces of surface tension that occur when going from a liquid to a vapour phase, such as from water to water vapour - the normal situation with biological specimens. The freeze drying method overcomes this problem by careful sublimation of frozen specimens under vacuum - a process that avoids the liquid phase and thereby reduces distortion effects. The rate of sublimation is a function of temperature and vacuum, with typical drying times being several hours or longer.

Cooled EM Freeze Dryer

  • Feature Thermoelectric cooling and heating - accurate temperature control, Menu-driven operation Etc.
  • Specifications Weight and dimensions. 450 mm W x 350 mm D x 175 mm H. Weight: 18 kg, Work chamber. Borosilicate glass 165 mm Ø x 125 mm H. Etc
The K750X EM Freeze Dryer operates at rotary pump vacuum using a Peltier thermoelectric stage. This means drying temperatures of down to -60C can be achieved, enabling careful sublimation of frozen specimens under vacuum.

Critical Point Dryer

The E3100 large chamber critical point dryer has been an industry standard for over 35 years and is used in numerous scanning electron microscopy (SEM) laboratories around the world. Primarily used for the critical point drying biological and geological specimens, the E3100 can also used for the controlled drying of MEMs, aerogels and hydrogels. The design of the E3100 features a large, horizontal pressure chamber measuring 63.5 mm internal diameter x 82 mm in length. The chamber has an external water jacket for temperature control and specimens are introduced via a removable rear door. The front of the chamber is fitted with a 25 mm diameter window which gives an unsurpassed view of the liquid level during the critical point drying process.
