Dr. Shanti Swaroop Nishat, born in 1913, started his career as editor of KHIDMAT, an Urdu daily published from Srinagar. He was the first trade commissioner in Bombay of the Jammu & Kashmir Govt. and Founder President of the Indo-Swiss Society. He subsequently went into manufacturing of cosmetics and founded Hygienic Research Institute (HRI) in 1957.
