The Indian Ortho Xylene market trends follow that of light aromatics such as Benzene. Domestic consumption stands at around 60% of the total production. Demand has not shown any significant growth over the last five years due to limited expansion in end user markets, recording a CAGR of just 2.70%.

Terephthalic acid is a widely used fibre intermediate and ranks 25th in tonnage of all chemicals produced in the world. The growing demand for PTA is fueled primarily by its consumption in the textile industry as cotton availability is limited and a need for a suitable substitute was required to sustain the textile industry.

Polypropylene (PP) is the second most widely traded polymer in the world after polyethylene. Global demand for polypropylene use to hit 90 Million Tons by 2020, global demand for polypropylene is expected to increase to 120 Million Tons by 2030 and the share of polypropylene in total polymer consumption is about 25% in 2018.

Acrylonitrile is produced commercially by propylene ammoxidation, in which propylene, ammonia, and air are reacted by catalysts in a fluidized bed. Acrylonitrile is used primarily as a co-monomer in the production of acrylic, modacrylicfibres, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and styrene acrylonitrile. It is used in the production of plastics, surface coatings, nitrile elastomers, barrier resins, and adhesives. It is also a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of various antioxidants, pharmaceuticals, dyes, and surface-active agents.

The demand for Phthalic Anhydride (PA) in India tends to remain constant throughout the year. However, during the monsoon season (between March-July) it increases marginally, in the range of 10%-20%. The current production capacity for PA in India stands at 287, 400 metric tonnes (MT) and it meets the current domestic demand.
