Rubber Raw Materials #1681947

Epdm Rubber

EPDM compounds are used frequently to seal in brake systems, and for sealing hot water and steam. EPDM compounds have good resistance to mild acids, detergents, alkalis, silicone oils and greases, ketones, and alcohols. They are not recommended for applications with petroleum oils, mineral oil, di-ester lubricants, or fuel exposure. EPDM has excellent ozone and chemical resistance properties and is compatible with many polar fluids.

Temperature Range

Low -51 C
High 149 C

Hardness Range

40 to 90 Shore A

Application Advantages

  • Excellent weathering resistance

  • Excellent resistance to oxidation, heat and ozone

  • Excellent acid, base and water resistance

  • Good dielectrics

Application Limitations

  • Poor abrasion resistance

  • Poor hydrocarbon resistance

  • Poor flame resistance

Usage:

  • Roofing membranes, windshield wiper blades, wire, cable and bladders, Seals and Gaskets.

Natural Rubber

Natural rubber is a product coagulated from the latex of the rubber tree, hevea brasiliensis. Natural rubber features low compression set, high tensile strength, resilience, abrasion and tear resistance, good friction characteristics, excellent bonding capabilities to metal substrate, and good vibration dampening characteristics.

Temperature Range

Low -54 C
High 72 C

Hardness Range

30 to 90 Shore A

Application Advantages

  • Excellent mechanical properties

  • Excellent resilience and compression set

  • Excellent electrical resistivit

  • Excellent adhesion to fabric and metals

  • Excellent resistance to water and dilute acids and alkalis

  • Good flexibility at low temperatures

  • Good resistance to abrasion, gouging and cut growth

  • Good resistance to oxidation, steam, ketones and oxygenated solvents, alcohols and ammonia

  • OK in concentrated alkali and acid

Application Limitations

  • Poor resistance to High temperatures

  • Poor resistance to ozone, sunlight and flame

  • Poor resistance to oils, gasoline, hydrocarbon solvents (degreasers), aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents

Usage:

  • Rubber to metal bonded vibration isolators and mounts

  • Automotive diaphragms

  • Applications for food and beverage seals

Hloroprene Rubber

Chloroprene Rubber is moderately resistant to both petroleum oils and weather (ozone, UV, oxygen). This qualifies Chloroprene uniquely for certain sealing applications where many other materials would not be satisfactory. Chloroprene has relatively low compression set, good resilience and abrasion, and is flex cracking resistant. Chloroprene has excellent adhesion qualities to metals for rubber to metal bonding applications. It is used extensively for sealing refrigeration fluids due to its excellence resistance to Freon and ammonia.

Temperature Range

Low -40 C
High 121 C

Hardness Range

15 to 95 Shore A

Application Advantages

  • Excellent ozone, weather and natural aging resistance

  • Excellent abrasion resistance

  • Excellent resistance to alcohols, ammonia, dilute and concentrated acids and alkalis

  • Good heat resistance

  • Good mechanical properties rating

  • Good compression set rating

  • Good flame resistance

  • Good resistance to water, steam, most oils and petroleum products

  • OK in kerosene, ketones and oxygenated solvents

Application Limitations

  • Chlorinated solvents, degreasers, diestic synthetic lubricants

  • Limited flexibility at lower temperatures

Usage:

  • V-belts , impellers, underground cables, hose, Bridge Bearing Pads
