Basically a magnetic mixer is like a conventional mechanical mixer it has a motor, a driveshaft, and mixing blades that mix stuff in a tank. Technically the term used for the mixing blade assembly in mixers is impeller. A propeller on a boat or an airplane is also a type of impeller. Impellers are designed to move liquids or gasses by rotating. What makes a magnetic mixer different from a conventional mixer is that the motor uses magnets to move the impeller. This works by attaching one set of magnets to the motor driveshaft and another set of magnets to the impeller. The advantage of magnetic stirrers is the suppression of sealing technology. The rotation of mixing elements is enabled by a magnetic field creating a touch-less torque transmission.
