Internal Spring Shut-off The nozzle is opened directly from the injection pressure and closed again with spring force. A needle which moves axially in the needle shut-off nozzle is held in the closed position by force of the spring. The nozzle orifice is normally closed. A temperature resistant material is used for the spring construction. External Spring Shut-off At start of the injection cycle the nozzle tip moves forward and when making contact with tool, force the tip back against the body and in doing so, allow the material to flow through the plunger to fill the mold. End of the injection cycle, the nozzle retracts and the pressure of the material within the barrel forces the tip into the forwards position, thereby shutting off the flow
