Plaster was a common building material for wall surfaces in a process known as lath and plaster, whereby a series of wooden strips are covered with a semi-dry plaster and then hardened into surface. The plaster used in most lath-and-plaster construction was mainly lime plaster. Lime plaster cure time is about a month. To stabilize the lime plaster during curing, small amounts of Plaster of Paris were mixed into the wall putty. Because Plaster of Paris sets quickly, retardants were used to slow setting time enough to allow workers to mix large working quantities of wall putty. A modern form of this method uses expanded metal mesh over wood or metal structures, which allows a great freedom of design as it is adaptable to both simple and compound curves. Today this building method has been partly replaced with drywall, also composed mostly of gypsum plaster. In both these methods a primary advantage of the material is that it is resistant to a fire within a room and so can assist in reducing or eliminating structural damage or destruction provided the fire is promptly extinguished.

Khatris whiting is micro fine and smooth in nature, it is also called as chalk powder. Khatris Whiting is used for smoothing the wall surface before painting the walls. it is most necessary and commonly used item in the interior painting. The true base for colour and soothing and luxury effect can only get through Khatri whiting. It is applied on walls only after plastering and gypsum and wallputty is applied. It is the final powder coating on walls before painting. Interior primer must be applied on walls before applying whiting paste on walls. Again the primer is applied on whiting before painting the wall.

Clean the surface(walls) by sand paper. Apply interior primer and then mix 1lt of enamel(oil paint) with 20kg of whiting bag. Apply the paste with putty blade on the surface and then again apply one coat primer after it gets dry, later on sand it with sand paper again of higher grit for more finishing, now wall is ready to be painted with your choice of colours.

Quick Lime (Chuna)Quick lime is manufactured from Rajasthan. Quick Lime is a lime oxide formed by calcining lime stone so that carbon di-oxide is liberated. Quick Lime is also called as lump lime or calcium carbonate. A caustic substance that is prepared by burning calcium carbonate lime stone at approximately 900 degree Celsius; at this high temperatures carbon dioxide is driven off and the lime Stone is converted to quick lime. A chemical compound with formula (CaO) it is a whitish, odorless alkaline substance, that does not dissolve well in water. It can be used as a lining material. Major use is in various Industrial processes like metal smelting, paper bleaching, sulphur neutralization in sugar, steel industries and so many. It is used in many water and waste water treatment operations such as softening.
