Quercus rubra, spp. Red Oak is probably the most widely used and abundant hardwood in the eastern United States. Oak has a characteristic ring porous grain pattern; the wood is heavy, hard and stiff.

The heartwood of Red Oak ranges in colour from "wheat" to a "light honey", sapwood is light off-white.

Fraxinus americana - is a ring porous hardwood and is fairly hard, heavy, and very tough. Ash features a light coloured, nearly white sapwood; heartwood is typically tan or light brown.

It grows throughout the eastern part of the United States, and represents about 3-5% of the total hardwood timber stand. Lowland ash is generally faster growing, lighter and softer textured.

Timber growing at higher elevations grows more slowly and is thus both heavier and harder. Ash has excellent bending and finishing qualities.

Uses
Furniture, panelling, flooring, fixtures, woodwork, bending stock, handles, sporting goods.

The heartwood colour of Yellow pine varies from pale straw to a light reddish-brown. Though not as resinous as other pine species resin duct still appear on longitudinal surfaces as fine brown lines. This timber is soft, with a straight grain and even texture with inconspicuous growth rings.

The sapwood of Yellow Poplar ranges from light yellow to white, the heartwood varies in contrast with colour ranging from tan to light brown and even greenish brown.

Poplar has an even but diffuse grain pattern. It is extremely stable, relatively stiff, and rather lightweight.

Furniture and furniture parts, mouldings, picture frames, cabinets and window frames.

Fagus grandifoliaand Fagus sylvatica. Reddish-brown heartwood with thin white sapwood and straight-grained pattern. A hard, strong, close-grained wood that is easy to paint, stain or bleach.
