The Oil & Diesel Engines Connecting Rods Steel forging or casting alloy nickel quality material also known as the con-rod of a typical main propulsion engine looks like the one shown in the picture which shows two views of the rod. The diagram is labeled clearly for all its parts and as you can note from the sketch it consists of an upper forked section which fits on the crosshead bearings while the lower part fits on the crankpin bearing.
Apart from the shape of the Oil & Diesel Engines Connecting Rods, there are special designs for other engines such as trunk engines. Apart from transmitting motion, the Oil & Diesel Engines Connecting Rods also serves to supply oil for piston cooling and crosshead lubrication.
Die-cast materials are generally used for connecting rods for general-purpose engines. Four-stroke gasoline engines are the most common application, although recently, special forging materials have been developed which allow for the production of lighter weight connecting rods and enable their application in small diesel engines as well.Connecting rods for compressors must be designed for long life. While for some products die-cast materials are used, the majority use gravity cast molds.
