A pigment is a powder used to add color or change visual appearance. Pigments are completely or nearly insoluble and chemically unreactive in water or another medium; in contrast, dyes are colored substances which are soluble or go into solution at some stage in their use. The main point of difference is that pigments can be dissolved in a liquid with the help of a binder while a dye can dissolve by itself. There are basically two types of pigments and they are: Inorganic pigments. Organic pigments. They are widely used to impart color and visual effects to various materials and products, including paints, inks, plastics, cosmetics, and textiles.
