PP raffia is a strong, lightweight, and durable synthetic fabric made from woven ribbons of polypropylene. It is commonly used in packaging applications where a high tensile strength is required.

Common sources of PP raffia scrap
PP raffia scrap is typically generated as post-industrial waste during manufacturing or as post-consumer waste from used products. Sources include:
  • Woven bags: Used for packaging bulk materials such as agricultural products, flour, cement, sugar, and fertilizers.
  • Jumbo bags: Large bags also known as flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs), used for storing and transporting dry, flowable materials.
  • Woven fabrics: Other industrial textiles and fabrics made from PP raffia.
  • Binding and strapping materials: Used for bundling and securing items.
  • End-of-life products: Worn-out items like ropes, mats, and certain garden furniture.

Recycling process
Recycling PP raffia scrap into usable granules involves several steps, often using a shredder-integrated recycling machine:
  1. Shredding: The plastic waste is first cut into smaller, more manageable pieces.
  2. Washing: The shredded material is cleaned to remove dirt, ink, and other contaminants.
  3. Pelletizing: The cleaned material is melted, extruded, and cut into uniform pellets, also known as recycled PP granules.

Uses for recycled PP raffia
The resulting recycled PP pellets can be used as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to virgin plastic in manufacturing new products. Uses include:
  • New PP woven bags and sacks
  • Plastic containers and bins
  • Ropes and twines
  • Automotive parts, such as bumpers
  • Garden products, including planters and furniture
  • General-purpose injection molding applications
