The Innocage Tall IVC Rat system offers the benefit of a larger living space, providing 9 (22.9cm) of headroom. The cage set utilizes a specially designed Tall Rat cage lid and stainless steel wirebar, as well as an 850 mL water bottle and a universal rat cage bottom.
Instechs plastic feeding tubes for rodent oral gavage are flexible to reduce the risk of trauma and disposable to eliminate the cost of cleaning and the chance of compound crossover. Flexible tubes are recommended as an animal welfare refinement over rigid metal tubes [1].
Instech manufactures the feeding tubes using medical grade materials to minimize the risk of interactions with test compounds. The tube is constructed of polypropylene, the same material used in plastic syringes. The soft elastomer tip is designed to prevent inadvertent placement in the trachea and reduce the risk of perforation. The feeding tubes are available in a variety of diameters and lengths for use in rodents ranging in size from mouse pups to rats to hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits. Instechs stainless steel feeding needles meet the needs of researchers that prefer traditional reusable metal tubes.
The needles are comprised of a stainless steel tube and ball and a nickel-plated brass hub. They comply with ISO 594 specifications. The sizes range from 24ga to 16ga to cover rodents ranging in size from mouse pups to large rats. Download the PDF below for complete specifications and species suggestions. The needles are sold straight, but are easily bent for optimized use.
The needles are sold in pack of 6 and are sterilized prior to shipping, so they are ready for use on arrival.
All Instech's single channel stainless steel models are fully autoclavable and may be reused hundreds of times.
Each swivel includes a universal swivel-to-tether clamp that connects to all of Instech's button, harness, and head block tethers. They are available in the following standard sizes:
For years, Instech's 375/D/22QE swivel has been the industry-standard for awake animal microdialysis. It has quartz-lining on the center channel to minimize dead volume and reactivity with neuroatransmitters.
The newer 375/D/22QM swivel incorporates a miniature seal system for ultra-low torque and quartz lining on both the center and side channels. It is the first dual channel swivel that can be used with mice and it is ultimate awake-animal microdialysis swivel for any species. However, it is more fragile than the 'QE model.
MCLA or SMCLA lever arms are strongly recommended. Connect to FEP tubing using 0.015in ID silicone tubing connectors instead of traditional blue widgets (CMA part no 340-9400), to avoid damage to the swivel side outlet tubes when removing the lines.
