The GP type rectifi ers provide improved brake performance in both brake release time and stopping time. The GP is a two-stage push design that uses both full-wave and half-wave rectifi er operation; when power is fi rst applied, it operates as a full-wave rectifi er for approximately 250ms, after which it operates as a half-wave rectifi er. There are two ways to apply GP rectifi ers. In the fi rst method, known as Overexcitation, the brake is released very quickly. In the second method, known as Reduced Power Holding, the brake is set very quickly, allowing for very fast stopping times.
