Axial expansion joints have typically an unrestrained construction and are primarily designed to take up longitudinal pipe expansions, normally caused by temperature fluctuations. Having unrestrained design the axial expansion joints require fixed points and guides to make up for the reactive forces and spring rates, as these loads are further released onthe pipe system. Axial expansion joints can absorb quite large movements at a relatively compact build-in length and offer a simple and cost efficient solution in terms of the compensation of movements.
