The T4 designation indicates that the aluminum has been solution heat treated and then artificially aged. This results in a material that has improved mechanical properties, such as increased hardness and strength, compared to the as-extruded condition.
However, it is important to note that the T4 temper is not as strong as the T6 temper, which undergoes additional heat treatment to further increase its strength. Therefore, if high strength is a critical requirement for a particular application, 6063 T6 aluminum may be a more appropriate choice.
