The phyCORE-i.MX 8 is a revolutionary SOM that offers consolidation of complex systems into one board to save on space and cost. A typical modern application can consist of a high performance compute core to run an OS like Linux, microcontroller to perform real time tasks and controls, as well as specific chips like DSPs and FPGAs. With Quad-core Cortex-A53 and Dual-core Cortex-A72, the phyCORE-i.MX 8 SOM has the capability to run two operating systems and replace two applications processor platforms. In addition, dual Cortex-M4F cores can run independent real time operating systems and an on-chip DSP can be optimized for advanced audio and speech recognition. Paired with the feature rich interconnect including high speed interfaces such as dual PCIe 3.0, USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and up to four display interfaces – the phyCORE-i.MX 8 SOM can replace multiple PCBAs in your system. phyBOARD-Segin in Pico-ITX format (100 x 72mm) can be used as a development platform to startup phyCORE-i.MX 6UL variants. phyBOARD-Segin offers an expansion connector for modular expansion. phyCORE-i.MX 6UL is directly soldered onto phyBOARD-Segin. Custom Expansions Several i.MX 6UL processor signals are routed to the expansion connector to allow for customizations. The phyBOARD-Polis, either a development platform for the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Mini/Nano, or a powerful, industry-compatible single-board computer for immediate implementation of your product idea. As a development platform, the phyBOARD-Polis serves as reference design for your customer-specific application and enables parallel development of the software and carrier board for the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Mini/Nano. A modern FTDI interface allows software download and debugging. As a powerful, industrial single-board computer (SBC), the phyBOARD-Polis is equipped with a variety of standard interfaces which are available on standard or socket/pin header connectors, while interesting extensions of the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Mini/Nano features such as CAN FD, WLAN and an integrated TPM chip further extend the range of applications that can be developed with the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Mini/Nano.

Although compact in size, the SOM provides a generous 319-pin interconnect for interfaces such as USB 2.0, I2C, SPI, UART, SDIO, MIPI CSI-2 camera, Ethernet, and PCIe. For HMI applications, the SOM features a MIPI-DSI to LVDS converter to support common display models on the market.

The phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus SOM is one of the smallest connectorized SOMs on the market. Features are not compromised as the 37×40 mm module includes an interconnect of 300 pins including dual MIPI CSI-2 camera, USB 3.0, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and PCIe as well as options for display including MIPI-DSI, LVDS, and HDMI. The features of the SOM combined with on-device machine learning accelerators provide a platform for your next-gen application. The SOM is now available for members of PHYTECs ALPHA program with general availability in Q1/2021.
