INTRODUCTION

It is a rain fall recorder of 203.4 mm dia rim. It can be used to record rainfall upto 120 mm/hour on a daily drum while weekly drum can record 15 mm/hour which are easily distinguishable on charts. It employs a natural action which is free from defects. There are no moving parts other than the float and clock drum, there is nothing delicate to adjust. The rain is received in a deep wet funnel fitted with beveled brass rim. The rain passes into a chamber containing float to which is attached an upright rod carrying a pen to record the vertical motion of the float on a chart fitted round a spring clock driven drum. The rain receiving chamber is connected to a siphoning system which also fills with the rain receiver, and siphon commences suddenly and is completed within 12 to 15 seconds, its cut-off point is also accurately controlled. A filter in the rain receiving system is provided to ensure that no dirt enters the chamber with the rain.
