Camprofile or "Grooved" Gaskets have proven themselves in all industrial applications. Camprofile gaskets are found in industrial power plants and in the primary circuits in nuclear installations. Used either between flanges or in heat exchanger units in nuclear applications. The Petrochemical and Chemical industries benefit too, as the gaskets are used in applications where high pressures and temperatures are maintained and consequently high bolt loads need to be controlled.   For flange protection the Camprofile gaskets are normally used in conjunction with a covering layer of either PTFE, Graphite etc, and provided that the layer thickness is correct in application the flange will be completely protected from the grooved profile of the gasket.       Advantages         Outstanding sealing characteristics at a wide range of seating stress levels. Helps compensate for wide swings in temperature and pressure. Very forgiving of inconsistent bolt torqueing or installation error. Applicable to almost all types of flanges regardless of bolt load available. The working thickness of sealing layers is extremely small reducing fugitive emissions. All standard o-ring sizes (imperial and metric) are available. Custom o-rings are available in standard cross-sections (imperial and metric) to any length or ID. Teflon-based gasket materials are able to withstand significantly more aggressive chemical environments (including highly oxidizing environments) than standard non-asbestos gasket materials. However their temperature, pressure and mechanical performance is inferior to standard non-asbestos gasket materials. Metal inserted and expanded PTFE are able to operate at higher pressures.        Mercer carries Garlock, Thermoseal and Gore-Tex brands of Teflon-based gasket materials. These materials are available in thicknesses 1/32" through 1/4". Teflon is principally used as a gasket material because of it's capability to remain unaffected by the majority of chemicals used in industry. It is also classified, in most cases, as a food grade material, making it acceptable to both medical and food production industries. There are three basic types of Teflon® gasket materials. Virgin Teflon , filled Teflon® and expanded Teflon® .       Virgin Teflon is by far the least expensive of the three varieties, and is used in most general applications. Filled Teflon is a gasket material with a virgin Teflon base to which a substance is added during manufacture to improve the sealing characteristics of Teflon® . This "filler" usually is glass or graphite particles although ceramics has sometimes been used. The resulting gasket material is strong, yet highly compressible with very good, though not universal, chemical resistance.       Expanded Teflon is virgin Teflon to which a stress resistance has been added by means of molecular rearrangement during manufacture. This process ensures that the molecular chains from which the Teflon is constructed, do not arrange themselves into set patterns. This means that expanded Teflon possesses no structural weakness (grain) and expands and contracts equally in all directions. Because no additives are required, expanded Teflon® also possesses the unique chemical resistance of virgin Teflon.

If a custom length is needed, gaskets can be made using a standard cross-section extrusion. Jacketed gaskets combine the temperature resistance of a metal jacket with the sealing performance of a soft filler. The jacket and filler materials are selected to optimizes temperature and chemical performance; construction style is dictated by pressure needs, gasket geometry and sealing issues.
