This wood decays easily if it comes into contact with soil. The wood is heavy and coarse grained and used for making frames for doors and window, pattern making, frames for doors and windows, and for paving material. White pine is light and straight grained and is used in the manufacture of matches sal : it is hard, fibrous and close-grained wood which does not take up a good polish. The wood requires slow and careful seasoning but is very durable under ground and water. It is used for making railway sleepers, shipbuilding, and bridges. sissoo : it is also known as shisham or tali which is strong and tough wood. It maintains its shape well and can be easily seasoned. It also takes a fine polish and used for making furniture, plywoods, bridge piles, sport goods, railway sleepers and so forth. It is a very good material for decorative works and carvings. teak : teak is durable and fire-resistant wood that can be easily seasoned and worked. The wood takes up a good polish and is resistant from white ants and dry rot attack. The important part is, it does not corrode iron fastenings and shrinks little.
