The gem under study is held in an immersion cell containing a special liquid and observed through the stereo binocular microscope (same specification as RATNA XTL-II microscope head). The microscope is focused horizontally on the gemstone by conveniently located controls. The halogen illumination system with iris diaphagm and diffusor is mounted on a moving arm. It enables the gemologist to vary the beam wide and angle of incidence and observe the characteristics of the gemstone held in the liquid.
